Claims

Whether providing full service or tailored individual services, our objective is to provide precise, timely, and reasonable indemnity and medical benefits to employees injured on the job. By establishing close working relationships with our clients, we become an extension of their operation, ensuring accurate communication, effective claims management, and thorough investigation of questionable and disputed claims. Our cost containment efforts have dramatically increased profitability and stability for our clients. By holding doctors and hospitals accountable, we help control clients’ claims costs.

We administer State Workers’ Compensation claims as well as Federal (United States Longshore and Harbor Workers), Jones Act, and general liability claims. Effective, aggressive claims management is the key to the success and longevity of any self-insured program. Our experience dictates an understanding that every dollar paid on a claim impacts the client’s bottom line and the financial stability of the company.


Loss Prevention

Loss prevention is a key element of cost control and a valuable service provided to all of our clients. Through a comprehensive, proactive analysis of a business’ management policies, safety programs, and training, our loss prevention representatives formulate constructive safety recommendations and feasible, industry-specific action plans. This in turn reduces hazards, policies, and practices that can cause claims.

Safety surveys are an integral part of a safety plan, creating safer work environments through hazard detection and abatement, and preserving the integrity of the program. RMS conducts on-site inspections prior to accepting a business if deemed appropriate. A hazardous class code, above average loss history, or multiple claims for the same type of accident will result in an inspection. Current policyholders are also inspected if high losses or similar types of claims occur. Unsafe procedures are the primary cause of workplace injury, and RMS uses site survey data to assist businesses in identifying areas in which to concentrate additional training and education. The Loss Prevention department provides information on many safety topics, including orientation training, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.

RMS also helps members reduce costs through the implementation of drug and alcohol policies. Substance abuse in the workplace increases accidents and absenteeism and decreases productivity and profitability. RMS utilizes cost reduction tools and state laws protecting employers, directly affecting the bottom line.


Accounting

The Accounting department of RMS coordinates transactions for all of the member policy holders. Cutting-edge technology and equipment at each workstation allow our staff to address questions and concerns with speed and accuracy. This department accepts premium payments for a variety of pay plans available to fund members and handles cancellations and reinstatements. Accounting also oversees all group fund transactions and coordinates payroll audits, processing premium balances and refunds.


Marketing

RMS has developed outstanding relationships with industry stack holders, business owners, association executives, insurance agents and brokers throughout Louisiana and the Gulf South. Our Professional Services team functions as your marketing department or an extension of your marketing team on any defined product or project. We will work with you to define, create, and execute your plans for brand awareness and profitable growth campaigns. Our experienced team will help you identify and understand both immediate and long term goals, then we will work together to develop the best strategy for achieving success.


Underwriting & Policy Services

The Underwriting and Policy Services department is responsible for the coordination of policyholder and agency information, as well as initial and renewal policy issuance. All calls to RMS take place person-to-person, not person-to-machine. High, quantifiable departmental standards and regularly scheduled evaluations ensure prompt service, error-free data entry, and meticulous completion of all underwriting procedures.

Department personnel track and update information for all the member policy holders and protect the integrity of our group Self-Insured Funds and Self-Insured Employers. This is accomplished through strict underwriting standards based on Best’s Underwriting Guidelines and those set forth by our excess insurance carriers, who provide an additional layer of protection for the programs we represent.

RMS thoroughly evaluates all risks enhancing the stability and longevity of the funds they represent. Our staff has extensive knowledge and experience in workers’ compensation classification codes, NCCI rules, experience ratings, and modifier promulgation.


Excess Insurance Placement

Excess Insurance protects assets against catastrophic claims or a series of claims that, combined, could undermine a program’s financial stability and cause hardship to a Fund or Self-Insured Employer (SIE). Regardless of whether a Fund or SIE ever uses this coverage, it provides crucial support. RMS has developed relationships with a number of top carriers in order to provide clients several excess coverage options.


Data Management

RMS has built its reputation by putting people and relationships first. We also understand the importance of data and claims related information to provide reports to help clients interpret all relevant information. All details submitted to RMS via accident reports and the claims process are captured in our state-of-the-art information management system. This ensures we meet our service goals and accurately identify and illustrate injury trends.

Our assortment of statistical data and claims reports allows for ongoing interaction with clients. Flexible reporting options allow clients to select the type and frequency of reporting best suited for them. A variety of reports are available to help our clients understand and control losses in their business.
